My copy of Mario Kart DS arrived in the mail today. I played a few Grand Prix races and it’s that classic Mario Kart feel you know and love. I probably should be practicing first, but I jumped online as soon as I could to test this newfangled Wi-Fi Connection Nintendo tells me I will just love. The results? I just love it.
Setting up is incredibly easy. I loaded the game, went to the WFC options and let it autodetect my network. Within seconds it found the network, I entered my security key, and it was done. Moments later I was on a global network, racing people from who-knows-where.
Nintendo had, until now, maintained the position that gaming over the internet wasn’t something they cared about. I think they were just waiting until they felt it could be done right, and if the WFC works this smoothly once more people are playing, they’ve got a real gem on their hands. I admit I had my doubts, but now I can’t stress how incredibly easy it is to get into a game over the network, nevermind the excellent performance.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some Karts to unlock.
