my gaming work

I'm still digging up older projects, but little by little I'll have this completely up to date.

Current Project

A Single Player map for Postal 2: Apocalypse Weekend called The Learning Process. Since this is my first time working with the Postal 2 version of the Unreal Warfare engine, I figured I'd start off with a familiar location to make layout and scale easier. I settled on the high school I went to, since we've always commented that its interconnected hallways would be perfect for a deathmatch. I may take part of this into an online deathmach map, but for now it's a Single Player experience, as I learn what's been updated since I worked with the original Unreal Tournament editor.

As befits an entry into the Postal experience, I have an absurd sequence of events planned for the map as The Dude finds himself in yet another ridiculous situation. On top of that, I'll be cramming as many quirks and secrets into it as I can.

As of June 6, 2005

Sketchwork of basic layout done, as well as a preliminary feature list. Textures chosen, basic geometry construction begins.

As of June 27, 2005

Basic structural geometry has been laid out

As of July 23, 2005

Completed basic layout. Detail geometry and construction of new static meshes begins.

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Great House Strongold Vaults

This was the first Morrowind plugin I actually completed and decided to release. In Morrowind, if you join one of the three Great Houses you'll eventually be given the chance to have a stronghold built for you. You would than have a place to stash all of your stuff, but nowhere to really show it off, so I added storage vaults to each stronghold. Each vault has platforms for items, weapons, and mannequins from a mannequin mod of your choosing.

The Tower Rebuilt

One of my favorite bloodbath (deathmatch) levels in Blood was The Tower, and since I was on an AvP2 kick, I decided to remake it as an AvP2 deathmatch map. The only feature that's missing are the triggered barrels that were in the original. Otherwise, the moving lift and droppable bridges are there and fully functional.

The Lithtech engine works off of two files for maps, a .ed file that the editor can read, which is compiled into a .dat file for the game to read. Included here is the most recent .dat file I could dig up. Unfortunately, I had some fixes and tweaks to add into this map, but the .ed that I have is quite a bit older, so I'm not sure how soon that's all going to get done. The map is fully playable, however, and a bit of fun, so I hope you enjoy.

Unreal Tournament

MK64 Arena

The inspiration for this map ought to be obvious. I had actually made this in Blood first (see below) and then decided to redo it in Unreal Tournament as practice with the Unreal engine. I went back recently and touched it up a bit to rerelease it here. It's most suited for two to six players. The weapons are a reasonable balance between distance and power, with a shock rifle, rocket launcher, flak cannon, and ripper, along with the enforcer pistol.

Blood

Lost in Experimentation

After tinkering with a dozen Blood maps, this is the first one I actually finished. As the title suggests, there's no real theme to the map; I was just playing with things as I went along. Still, it's a long one and a bit of a challenge. You'll see some shortcuts I had to take, as this is the map that taught me about Build engine limits on sector and wall count.

The House of Tortured Souls

The second map I managed to complete, this one has a little more coherence to it. Originally, it started as a hallway with chambers leading to various rooms as I was experimenting with the various traps that could be created with Blood's engine. I then decided that it needed an entrance, and it blew up from there. It's also a lengthy play through, and quite challenging. There are secrets abound, and you need to be very creative in looking for them. Rest assured, you'll be well rewarded for finding them.

Cabal Block Fort

Inspired, obviously, by the Mario Kart 64 battle mode arena Block Fort, this one is best suited for two to four players and grants you the shotgun and tommy gun with ammo for each. If you're nimble, you can get ahold of the napalm launcher in the center. If you're extra observant, you'll be able to gain access to a medpack and some ammo for that napalm launcher.

Just Killing Time

A more detailed attempt at what the House of Tortured Souls was originally supposed to be. Start the map, hit the armory if you want, and explore the chambers. It isn't currently finished, since I had upgraded my computer and inadvertently rendered MapEdit dormant. Now that I have another machine capable of running this stuff again, I intend to go back and finish it off.
